Question:

I have been invited to a Nikah of a close family member. Only problem is that although the tables may be separate, men and women will be in the same room without any partitions and some women do not observe purdah. It is likely for family only to sit per table. It would be like if you were going out to a public restaurant and sit amongst your immediate mahram. I do not know about music or potential other fitnah there. Sometimes family want to take pictures of you with them on their wedding day. What do I do in this situation?

Answer

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

There is a detailed article on the Darul Ifta Birmingham website which strictly states the impermissibility of music.

The wedding ceremony and celebrations should be kept as simple as possible. Aisha raḥimahullāh (may Allāh have mercy upon him) narrates that the Prophet of Allah ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him); has said; “The most blessed wedding is the one with the least expenses.” (Mishkaatul Masabeeh)

Regarding your question it would not be permissible to attend such weddings in which there will be mixing and no veil between the men and women in addition to other potential fitnah that might occur there too.

Only Allah knows best.
