Question

Is it permissible in sharia to name a street according to the name of a departed lady in her memory?

Answer:

There is no harm in naming a road after a departed person providing the name itself was of sound meaning and not something antithetical to Islam. For example, if someone was called ‘shar’ which means evil, that road or that person must change their name. In fact, it is possible people will make dua for that person it is named after. Care must be taken that the name is easy to write and convey as it is, after all, a means of direction and location in a public space. In conclusion, there is nothing stated to forbid it.
