Question:
My question is can a jinn influence a person by making him suffer, control him, or make him sick. Is magic done through jinn or is it a completely different thing altogether? Like when the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) suffered and then the last 2 surahs were revealed. Was this done to him through jinn?

Answer:
Yes, it is agreed amongst majority Islamic jurists that Jinn can enter and possess humans and take over their bodies thus influencing their actions and words. Black magic is separate from Jinn’s possession. However, in some black magic spells, there is the involvement of devils and jinn.
“As one stands who is being beaten [thus influenced] by Satan (the devil jinn) into insanity.” – (Qur’ān 2:275)1
