Question

Dear respected Mufti Sahib,

Is it allowed to have a Bayan (lecture) in English between the Friday Khutbah and the Jummah Namaaz? i. e. First the 2 arabic Khutbahs, than 20 min. talk in English and then the jummah prayer. Would there be any Karaahat in doing this, and what kind of karahat?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

It is makruh (reprehensible) to delay the Jumuah prayer after the khutba is finished, hence for example it is mustahabb (recommended) to deliver the khutba whilst in a state of wudu to avoid delaying the salah due to the Imam having to make wudu after the khutba before the salah.[1]  Based on this we can see that if the Imam starts giving another talk in between the Jumuah khutba and the Jumuah salah this would be even more worthy of being makruh as there is no need to do so. This delay and extra talk in between also goes against the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ and what has been the inherited practice of the companions and their students.

If an Imam needs to give an extra talk he may do so separately before the khutba as is done in many masjids today.
