Question:

How many Hoors will a man get in Jannah? What is the تطبيق (reconciliation) between different narrations?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

There are many Ahadith on the Hurul In.  Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah( رضى الله عنه )narrated thatProphet Muhammad(صلى الله عليه وسلم) said:

“A man from among the people of Paradise will have two wives from the Hurul In, on each one of them seventy garments, the bone of her leg is visible from behind the clothes”.[1]

Sayyiduna Miqdad Ibn Madikarib( رضى الله عنه )reported that Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم)said:

“There are six things with Allah for the martyr. He is forgiven with the first flow of blood (he suffers), he is shown his place in Paradise, he is protected from punishment in the grave, secured from the greatest terror, the crown of dignity is placed upon his head and its gems are better than the world and what is in it, he is married to seventy-two wives from Hurul In of Paradise, and he may intercede for seventy of his close relatives”.[2]

Sayyiduna UbadahIbn Samit( رضى الله عنه )has relatedthat the Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said:

The martyr receives six favours from Allah:

To forgive him in the first drop of blood, and that he views his place in paradise, he is made to taste the sweetness of faith and marry the Hurul In, and he will be protected from the torment of the grave, he will be safe from the greatest terror, and the crown of dignity will be placed on his head, and the ruby of it is better than the world and what is in it, and he will marry seventy-two wives from Hurul In, and he will intercede for seventy people from his close ones.

A similar narration (Hadith) is recorded by Imam Ahmad(رحمه الله) in his Musnad.[3] Imam Bazzar(رحمه الله) in his Musnad and Imam Tabrani(رحمه الله) in Mujam Kabir.[4] As mentioned by Hafiz Al-Haithami(رحمه الله).[5]

Seventy-two wives: The restriction of seventy-two signals that its limitations, and it does not refer to the maximum and it could be possible that it is the minimum which will be given and there is no prevention of the virtue and addition over it.

Hurul In i.e. women of Paradise and singular is Howrah, a severe eye whites and severe blackness of the pupils, and Ain is plural of Aynaa, and it is the wide-eyed; the martyrs’ intercession is accepted (for seventy of his relatives): that is, his relatives and loved ones. (Narrated by Tirmizi and Ibn Majah).[6]
