Question:

The Hadith where it says;

Only two people are worthy to be envied someone who is given the QURAN and recites it in worship day and night and someone who is given wealth and spends it in charity day and night. Bukhari and Muslim.

When it says Quran recited day and night, does it just mean someone who does Tilawah of it day and night, or does it mean like Tahajjud or what exactly?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Salim narrated on the authority of his father Sayyiduna Abdullah Ibn Umar( رضى الله عنهما ) that the Messenger of Allah (عز و جل) said:

لا حَسَدَ إلّا فِي اثْنَتَيْنِ: رَجُلٌ آتاهُ اللَّهُ القُرْآنَ فَهُوَ يَقُومُ بِهِ آناءَ اللَّيْلِ وآناءَ النَّهارِ ورَجُلٌ آتاهُ اللَّهُ مالًا فَهُوَ يُنْفِقُهُ آناءَ اللَّيْلِ وآناءَ النَّهارِ

Envy is not justified but in case of two persons only: one who, having been given (knowledge of) the Quran by Allah, recites it during the night and day (and also acts upon it) and a man who, having been given wealth by Allah, spends it during the night and the day (for the welfare of others. seeking the pleasure of the Lord).[1]

(It is performed during the night and during the day) meaning the times in which worship is referred to, and to worship by reciting the Quran all day and night, is not intended. [2]

It was as if He (صلى الله عليه وسلم) according to the arrangement and refinement of the Hadith,said,“There is no envy, but envy should be in prayer during the night and the day with the Quran and at the expense of money in his right and teaching his people knowledge.

“Except in two cases: a man whom Allah has given”. This means that Allah gave him the Quran, so he recites it, “and stand with it”: which is to act upon it, or recite it, or both.

During the night and the day,i.e. their hours.[3]

Hence, the aforementioned Hadith refers to reciting the Quran regularly, in and out of Salah.
