Question

When Isa Alayhis Salaam comes to this world will he come as a New  Prophet or Nabi?

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Answer:

Abu Hurairah (Radiallahu Anh) reported Allah’s Messenger (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) as saying: “The similitude of mine and that of the Apostles before me is that of a person who built a house quite imposing and beautiful, but for one brick in one of its corners. People would go round it, appreciating the building, but saying: Why has the brick not been placed here? He said: I am that brick and I am the last of the Apostles.” (Sahih Muslim) [1]

From the above-mentioned hadeeth, Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) has made it clear that he is the last of Prophets and no others will come after him.

It is narrated on the authority of Abu Hurairah (Radiallahu Anh) that the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) said: “What would you do when the son of Maryam (Alayhas-salaam) would descend amongst you and would lead you as one amongst you? Ibn Abi Dhi’b on the authority of Abu Hurairah (Radiallahu Anh) narrated: “Your leader amongst you”. Ibn Abi Dhi’b said: Do you know what the words:  “He would lead as one amongst you” mean? I said: Explain these to me. He said: He would lead you according to the Book of your Lord and the Sunnah of your Messenger.” (Sahih Muslim) [2]

Abu Hurairah (Radiallahu Anh) reported that the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wa Sallam) said: “By Him in Whose hand is my life, the son of Maryam (Alayhas-salaam) will soon descend among you as a just ruler. He will break crosses, kill swine and abolish jizya and the wealth will pour forth to such an extent that no one will accept it.” (Sahih Muslim) [3]

In light of the above-mentioned ahadeeth, one can conclude that Isa (Alayhis-salaam) will not descend as a Prophet, rather a just imam (leader) who will follow the Qur’an and Sunnah.
