\n\tQuestion<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tSalaam someone just asked me about frozen 5 – day old viable embryos stored from I.V.F. parents. There are three options related to these embryos:<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t1) Discard them all<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t2) Donate to other potentials<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t3) Donate to science or research<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t \n<\/p>\n

\n\tWould you be able to comment on what would be permissible or not from the Islamic perspective?  
\n\t‏<\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t \n<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t \n<\/p>\n

\n\tAnswer:<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tIslamically, looking at the following scenario one should discard them all, and this is the best of the following three given options.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t \n<\/p>\n

\n\tIn regards to the second option of donating to other potentials will be considered <\/span><\/span>Haraam<\/span><\/span><\/u> and<\/span><\/span> should be totally avoided as this is also a form of <\/span><\/span>Zina<\/span><\/span> (adultery) (as sperm is being used for someone other than one's own spouse).<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t \n<\/p>\n

\n\tAllah mentions in the Quran: "Your wives are your tilling fields (where your seeds are planted) so approach your tilling fields as you desire. And send (good actions) ahead of for yourselves, Fear Allah and know that you will meet Him; and give good news to the <\/span><\/span>mu'mineen<\/span><\/span>.”[1]<\/a><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tIn the above ayah tilling is mentioned specifically with a man's wife, which indicates that a woman other than his wife is not appropriate for his tilling.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t \n<\/p>\n

\n\tWe also see from the Hadith of the Holy Prophet (Sallal lahu <\/span><\/span>Alayhi<\/span><\/span> wa <\/span><\/span>Sallam<\/span><\/span>) were such actions are clearly prohibited;<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tRuwayfi bin Thabit Al Ansari (r.a ) narrates that the Prophet (Sallal lahu <\/span><\/span>Alayhi<\/span><\/span> wa <\/span><\/span>Sallam<\/span><\/span>) said on the day of Hunayn: “It is unlawful for a man who believes in Allah and the last day that he waters the plant of another.”<\/em> [2]<\/a><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe meaning of watering the plant of another is to insert one’s sperm into the womb of another person’s wife.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t \n<\/p>\n

\n\tTherefore, all forms of treatment in which a third party is involved are completely unlawful and should be completely avoided.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t \n<\/p>\n

\n\tIn regards to the 3rd option, sperm and eggs are sacred of a human being and cannot be given for research, and the reason for the following is because if something as sacred as blood cannot be given except in severe need, then sperm and egg are out of the question. <\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t \n<\/p>\n

\n\tIn conclusion, one should discard all of the embryos and not involve any third party for donation or research.[3]<\/a><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n
