\n\tCannabidiol (CBD) is a chemical compound from the cannabis plant. It is a naturally occurring substance that is used in products like oils and edibles to impart a feeling of relaxation and calmness. Unlike tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is the principal psychoactive constituent of cannabis, it is not psychoactive. A psychoactive drug is a chemical substance that acts primarily upon the central nervous system where it alters brain function, resulting in temporary changes in perception, mood, consciousness, and behavior.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t \n<\/p>\n

\n\tHence, while CBD is a component of marijuana, it is non-intoxicating. It is the non-psychoactive portion of the plant. It is suggested that the use of CBD has some medicinal properties, including relieving inflammation, pain relief, and reducing anxiety, although there have not been conclusive scientific studies on this.<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t \n<\/p>\n

\n\tIn principle, the prohibition of marijuana in Shariah is due to it being an intoxicant. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “All intoxicants are prohibited.” (Bukhari)<\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\t \n<\/p>\n

\n\tHowever, given that CBD is not the same as THC in terms of it being psychoactive, if one uses CBD products for medicinal use and it does not lead to intoxication, then it will be permissible as long as the laws and regulations of one’s country permit the use of CBD related products. However, it is not permissible to smoke CBD, it must be used in another form. Nevertheless, its usage will only be considered permissible if advised by an expert Muslim doctor and if there are no other permissible alternatives available.<\/b><\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\n\tThe extent of permissibility to use cannabis products i.e. oils, seeds, etc. for consumption or application purposes is that it must not lead to intoxication. <\/span><\/span>\n<\/p>\n
