My friend has an auntie in Pakistan who needs money for an operation. He said that it can be zak\u0101t<\/em> eligible. Will that count? Even though it is 2 months earlier than I did my zak\u0101t<\/em> last year which was the end of Rama\u1e0d\u0101n? Can you also explain how to calculate it!<\/span><\/p>\n

Answer:<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

If the auntie you refer to is poor, meaning she does not have the amount of money (ni<\/em>\u1e63<\/em>\u0101b<\/em>) that makes zak\u0101h<\/em> mandatory for her, then she can be given zak\u0101h<\/em>. Zak\u0101h<\/em> can also be discharged in advance. However, when the actual year comes to end, if there was a shortfall in the amount given, it should be discharged upon the year\u2019s end. Zak\u0101h<\/em> is calculated by giving 2.5% of the total of all your wealth, assets, cash and savings, that are above your basic needs and necessities. \u2013 (See: Rad Al-Mu\u1e25t\u0101r, Vol 2, Page 259, D\u0101r Al-Fikr1<\/sup>)<\/span><\/p>\n
