Will 18 degrees be OK in all places for the start of the fast?<\/span><\/p>\n

Answer:<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The difference of opinion surrounding 15 degrees and 18 degrees comes down to the difference of opinions of the Hanafi scholars.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Imam Abu Hanifa states that Isha begins after the whiteness in the sky which is 18 degrees and Imam Abu Yusuf and Imam Muhammad state it is after the disappearance of the redness in the sky which is 15 degrees.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The ruling according to what the timings are decided is that it is safer and better to go with the 18 degrees timing as all the scholars are unanimous that by the whiteness in the sky, Isha time begins. However, where there is an uzr (excuse), then the 15 degrees can be used and this is often for those countries where the 18 degrees timing pushes Esha close to midnight. (1)<\/span><\/p>\n

Thus, in response to your query, generally, the best option would be to take the 18 degrees timing by all countries unless it is difficult for a country to take such timing due to difficulty, then they’ll take the 15 degrees timing.<\/span><\/p>\n
