On this issue of starting with Saudi, we have many masajid that go with either Saudi or calendar, but the huffaz leading Taraweeh there, go according to local moonsighting.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What should they do? Should they lead the Taraweeh anyways, and then see if they get news of the moon being sighted elsewhere, then regard it to be Taraweeh otherwise, repeat the same thing in Taraweeh the following night?<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

If yes, then on what basis would they be leading this “Taraweeh” and what intention should they be making?<\/span><\/p>\n

It feels like a niyyat that would have doubt ….\u00a0 Or should they not lead?<\/span><\/p>\n

A person who is following local moonsighting and will not be fasting the next day as they don\u2019t regard it to be Ramadhan will not be able to lead the Taraweeh prayer which is a Sunnah prayer specific for the month of Ramadhan. They would however be able to pray behind an Imam who is praying Taraweeh, as the Imam\u2019s intention will be Sunnah and the follower can pray Nafl prayers behind him, but the Imam himself cannot be intending Nafl whilst the followers behind him intend Sunnah Taraweeh.<\/span><\/p>\n
