Can we as Muslim men get a vasectomy?<\/span><\/p>\n

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Answer:<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

No. In the majority of cases, it is not permissible to get a vasectomy.1<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Vasectomy is a permanent contraceptive surgery and is performed to permanently stop sperm from coming out. Islam does not allow castration of any sort. It would only be allowed if there was an extreme necessity and such a necessity would only be when a qualified doctor, after thorough examination and checking, declares that it is necessary for the protection of the life of the man or his wife.2<\/sup><\/a> However, necessity is only up to the need and no more than that.3<\/sup><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

This means that there are an infinitesimally small number of cases where vasectomy may be an option but if there are alternatives which are non-permanent, non-invasive contraceptive techniques that will achieve the same result without mutilation of the body, one must opt for them instead.<\/span><\/p>\n
