And would the ruling be the same for fidya, and zakat?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Question 2: a person makes a firm intention at night to fast the next morning (Ramadhan) &#8211; at what point can they change their mind?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><u>In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong><u>Answer:<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">If a Muslim deliberately breaks his\/her fast during Ramadan by having intercourse or eating and drinking with no justifiable reason in Shari&#8217;ah, then paying Kaff\u0101rah (expiation) for the sin becomes mandatory. (Al lubaab fi sharh al Kitab, pg 383, vol 2)[1]<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">The Kaff\u0101rah (expiation) for a broken fast, which is in addition to making up the fast for the missed day is fasting sixty consecutive days without interruption.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">If a person is unable to fast the sixty days for a valid reason in the shari&#8217;ah e.g., old age or a chronic illness that makes fasting difficult then the person can do one of the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">1, Feed sixty poor people two full meals a day<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">2, Feed one poor person two meals a day for sixty days<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">3, Give sixty poor people 3.5lbs, or 1.6kgs of wheat, flour, fine flour, or its value in cash or feed one poor person for sixty days.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">4, Give sixty poor people 7.5lbs or 3.5kgs of dry dates, barley or its value in cash or feed one poor person for sixty days. (Imdadul Fatah ala Maraqi al Falah, pg 685-686)[2]<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">With regards to your question, a person may fulfil this obligation themself or it would be permissible to appoint someone as a representative (Wakeel) to pay the Kaff\u0101rah for breaking one&#8217;s fast. It would also be permissible to appoint someone as a representative to pay Fidya, and Zakat on one&#8217;s behalf. The person who is paying will act as a wakeel (Representative) on the person&#8217;s behalf. (Raddul Muhtar, pg 13, vol 4)[3]<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">To answer your second question, if a person made a firm intention to fast the next day during a night of Ramadan and decided to change their mind for some reason and decided not to fast then that person has until before the break of true dawn (Subha Sadiq) to change their intention (Al Bada\u2019i al Sana\u2019i, pg 606, vol 2\/ Al Muheet al Burhani, pg 380, vol 2)[4]<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;
