Alhumdulillah, I accepted Islam as my religion in Nov, 2023. I live with my parents in a society where I am the only Muslim. I follow an app called “Athan” to track my prayer times. This week, I came across a feature of my phone which is able to show the exact time and position of the sun.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

When I compared the time of sunset through this feature with the app I use, I came to find out that the app misinforms it’s users saying it’s time for maghrib while actually it’s time of sun just beginning to set.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Due to this, I saw myself breaking fasts and praying Maghirb prayers during the sunset timing.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I fasted my whole Ramadan in this way as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful<\/strong><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n

Allah, the Highest, says:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDo not despair of Allah\u2019s mercy. Surely, Allah will forgive all sins. Surely, He is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe value of an action depends on the intention behind it.\u201d [Sahih Muslim 1907]<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

From these teachings, we understand that Allah is the Most Forgiving and Merciful, and your efforts, guided by sincere intentions, will surely not be disregarded.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Regarding the legal aspects of salah (prayer) and fasting, it is considered haraam (forbidden) to pray when the colour of the sun turns pale until it sets completely. This period starts approximately 20 minutes before sunset and continues until the sun has fully set.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

If the pre-dominant thought of the person was that it was the time of iftaar, then only qadha (compensation of each fast missed) will be mandatory (wajib).<\/span><\/p>\n

Try to contact local scholars or knowledgeable sisters, as sometimes a few extra minutes are added to the prohibited time to be on the safe side. It might be that by deducting those extra minutes, both your salah and fast are valid.<\/span><\/p>\n
