I have been dealing with this waswasa for weeks now. During phone sex, I called my partner “real dad” because he wanted to hear it as part of a role play. I also said it out of rebellion against my real father, with whom I have a strained relationship. Additionally, I referred to him as “real dad” because he treats me better than my father, out of love and affection. I want to clarify that I was unaware of the concept of Zihar at the time. I have read that some scholars are of the opinion that a woman can declare Zihar before marriage. This is making me feel sick now. I know my intention was never to make him unlawful for me, but my mind won’t stop doubting and suggesting it’s Zihar. Please, please help me. Could you provide further guidance on this issue?<\/span><\/p>\n

Zihar refers to an old Arab custom from the pre-Islamic period. When a husband had a disagreement with his wife, he would declare, “You are to me like the back of my mother.” By this statement, the wife was considered akin to the husband’s mother, making her forbidden to him, and the marital bond was considered irrevocably broken.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As for whether or not a woman can give zih\u0101r, most scholars have said that it isn’t possible for a woman to give zih\u0101r because zih\u0101r was a pre-cursor\/one form or Talaq, and a woman can’t give Talaq the way a man can.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Regardless, the ruling of Zih\u0101r depends on the intention of the one who uttered the words of Zih\u0101r. If you meant it in terms of love, respectability, etc, it will not have any affect on your marriage. If it was said without any intention or purpose, it will also not have any effect. If however, it was said with the intention of divorce, it will count as one revocable divorce.<\/span><\/p>\n
