There is a brother of Jewish background who converted recently. His parents were quite upset when they found out, and they told him that he cannot go to the masjid unless it\u2019s obligatory for him to go.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He lives with them currently and is not currently able to move out, though he is working towards it.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The brother was saying that there are times when he would easily be able to go to the masjid for regular salahs, Bayans etc. without them finding out. Should he take such opportunities to come to the masjid, or should he obey his parents and only go for Jumuah and Eid?<\/span><\/p>\n

You mentioned that “he cannot go to the masjid unless it’s obligatory for him to do so.”<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The five daily prayers in congregation at the masjid are considered an emphasised Sunnah (Sunnah Muakkadah), which some jurists regard as very close to being obligatory (wajib), and others even classify as wajib (mandatory).<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Since his parents have advised him to go only when necessary, he should kindly explain to them that performing the five daily prayers in congregation is strongly emphasised for men and should be done in the masjid. If it is not possible, he can pray at home.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
