If one accidentally or purposely eats haram food, and then fasts right after that, will their fast be valid, or will they have to make it up?<\/span><\/p>\n

Answer:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Eating haram food before fasting has no effect on the validity of the fast. The fast will be valid, and they will not have to make up for it.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

However, consuming haram food is a grave sin, and it is narrated that the du\u2019a of the one who intentionally eats haram food will not be accepted:<\/span><\/p>\n

Abu Hurairah (RA) narrated: The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said:<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“O people, Allah is Good and He accepts only that which is good. And Allah commanded the believers as He commanded the Messengers by saying: ‘O Messengers, eat of the good things, and do good deeds; verily I am aware of what you do’ (23:51). And He said: ‘O you who believe, eat of the good things that We have given you’ (2:172).”<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He then made mention of a person who travels widely, his hair disheveled and covered with dust. He lifts his hand towards the sky (and thus makes supplication): “O Lord, O Lord,” whereas his diet is unlawful, his drink is unlawful, his clothes are unlawful, and his nourishment is unlawful. “How can then his supplication be accepted?” (Sahih Muslim 1015)<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Thus, one should endeavour to ensure they do not consume haram food, whether intentionally or out of carelessness [1].<\/span><\/p>\n
