Selling for hundreds and thousands of pounds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">The coins as you may have a look on Google images have the sideways face of the queen on one side of the coin. And the other side may have an image of a lion, rabbit or Britannia sitting sideways.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">I&#8217;d like to know if we are allowed to sell these rare coins. As I have done a Google search which says it may be allowed, but this has caused me confusion as these are human and animals printed on the coins which have eyes, which makes me believe we could never sell these coins. So could you please clarify if we can or can&#8217;t sell these coins.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>Answer:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">When a coin has ceased to be used as legal tender, and is now considered a collectible or antique, it can be sold based on its market value, not just its face value. This is considered a b\u0101\u2019i\u2018al-sil\u2018ah (sale of merchandise), not \u1e63arf (money exchange).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">Islam prohibits the\u00a0drawing or making of images of animate beings, especially\u00a0with full features\u00a0including\u00a0eyes, in order to prevent idolatry and imitation of Allah\u2019s creation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">However, scholars\u00a0differentiate\u00a0between\u00a0creating\u00a0such images and\u00a0possessing items\u00a0that incidentally contain such images \u2014 especially when those items have\u00a0other practical or financial functions, like\u00a0money or official documents.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">Furthermore, modern scholars and muftis have permitted\u00a0using and trading\u00a0in currency and stamps that carry such images when the image is\u00a0not the primary purpose, and when\u00a0there is no intent to glorify the image.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">Such as the Queen or animals. These images are not created by the seller and are not being glorified. The coins are being sold as collectibles, not for religious or artistic veneration. The\u00a0value is determined by rarity, not by the face value of the coin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">This ruling is supported by classical texts such as\u00a0Fat\u0101w\u0101 al-Hindiyyah,\u00a0Radd al-Mu\u1e25t\u0101r, and contemporary Hanafi fatwas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">Advice: If you are dealing in such coins, ensure your\u00a0intention is clean, and you are not encouraging or promoting tasw\u012br unnecessarily.
