My wife has been asked by her non-muslim female friend for being a official witness to her marriage.
Is this permissible? If yes, why? If no, why?
How can she best explain it to her non-muslim friend if she cannot be a witness?
Allah has stated: ‘So that you should be witnesses over the people’
When a Muslim is permitted to be a witness for or against another Muslim, the Muslim is then more worthy of giving a witness for or against a non-Muslim.
There is no dispute amongst the Muslim jurist in the permissibility of this.
In regards to your question it will be permissible for your wife to be an official witness provided that none of the Shari’ah rulings are violated such as free mixing of men and women and participating in their religious ceremony etc.
Only Allah knows best
