Question

Hi, I'm a Muslim girl, I wanted to ask you a question is listening to subliminal haram?
I'm using subliminal to lose weight, and I'm planning to use subliminal later for body hair removal, but I wanted to know if subliminal is haram to listen or not. I'm not addictive to this is just that I want quicker results with weight loss for this subliminal its says if you believe they're work they actually will work for you if don't believe they won't work. Am I allowed to listen to subliminal?

Answer

The Cambridge dictionary defines subliminal with the following words:

" not recognized or understood by the conscious mind, but still having an influence on it:

The leader was interviewed in front of a factory to give the subliminal message that he was a man of the people. (https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/subliminal)

There are two points to mention when it comes to subliminal.

1)There is no evidence that subliminal alters peoples appearance, physique or weight. Whatever happens in this world, it all happens because of the will of Allah subḥānahu wa ta'āla (glorified and exalted be He). So a person losing weight is not because of subliminal but it is because Allah has willed it.

2) Subliminals are like hidden messages and there is a precedent of that in the Shariah called Ilhaam, where a person gets an inspiration to do something good and that the inspiration comes from Allah subḥānahu wa ta'āla (glorified and exalted be He).

The conclusion we can come to is if messages which are against the values and principles of the Shariah are found in the subliminal messages, then it will be impermissible, otherwise, it will be permissible.

Only Allah Knows Best
