Question:

As salam Aleykoum, and Thank you for your help to the ummah by your work, may Allah reward you.

I reach to you because i’m dealing with a disturbing gas issue that makes my life very difficult sometimes.

The problem is that almost or even at every prayer i have the urge to pass wind and a sensation of gas wanting to come out.

It has been 6 months that i’ m dealing with this issue and i always have to retain myself from gas to come out in Wudu and exceptionally in player.

I know that a person with a chronic issue that make him lose his wudu constantly is considered Ma’zhur but in my case, the urge to pass gas is not constant and I can manage to do wudu one time and enter the prayer but I have to visit the toilet before, relieve myself of gas before wudu, make wudu quickly, and above all I have to hold my gas in every prayer to the extent that it take me 40 min to do a prayer of 4 rakat because i put all my energy in holding gas and the most disturbing is that i don’t even know if i was able to hold it because I feel a lot of gas movement, or it is very near the exiting area… and when I hold it, it comes back again and even with a greater urge and I don’t know if it came out or not but it is most likely to be the case.

And also this gas issue happens mostly in prayer, even if i wait 30, 50 min before making wudu and pray, when i enter in prayer the gas wants to come again and i think it is mainly due to the movement in salah (sujud, ruku…)

And i lose my concentration in prayer and now i am very sad everyday because i just want to feel the sensation of tranquility in prayer and i pass all of my days trying to pray without gas exiting.

I try different things to help with this issue like changing diet, fasting, medication, even praying fast… but it has not ended the problem entirely. In the past i was praying in the mosque but now in pray at home because of the fear of losing my wudu in prayer or even on the way to the mosque.

Can I be excused even if the gas is not present during an entire salah time, or do i have to retain myself?

Thank you for your response and excuse me for the fault in my wording ( English is not my first language)

May Allah preserve you in this dunya and grant you Jannah.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

I ask Allah ﷻ to make it easy and to grant you the tranquility and concentration in salah like that of the companions, may Allah ﷻ be pleased with them all.

Seeking medical attention should be a very important part of this subject since it became a pressing matter only six months in. Professional guidance and expertise in this field should be able to guide you and help curb the problem at hand.

The ability to perform salah in such a situation, even for a moment, would not allow a person to fall under the ambit of an excused person. The condition for a person to become a Mazuur (excused person) is that the condition should exist for the entire duration of the salah waqt, and in your case, salah can be performed without such a condition, even if it is for a short period.

Only Allah ﷻ knows best.
