Question:
Salaams I have a question regarding my daughter and her husband.
On Saturday they got into a argument and he said I divorce you 3 times then he picked you the quran and said the same words (I divorce you) another 6 times my believe is triple talaq is final and there is no reconciliation? But the husband family believes because it was in one sitting its classed as 1 talaq?
Could we have some verification on this please.

Answer:
Thank you for your question. May Allah ﷻ grant ease to your family, rectify their affairs, and guide them to what is correct.
In the situation described, the husband clearly issued divorce multiple times, including three explicit pronouncements in one sitting, and then repeated it further.
According to the four schools of jurisprudence, when three divorces are issued, even in one sitting, they take effect. This results in a final and irrevocable separation (talaq mughallazah). Therefore, the marriage has ended, and reconciliation is not permissible unless the woman marries another husband in a valid marriage which then ends naturally.
This is also the ruling given here. The divorce is final and cannot be taken back.
It is important to note that some scholars held the view that three divorces issued in one sitting count as one. This is why the husband’s family may be saying this. However, this is not the position adopted here.
The fatwa is given in accordance with the Hanafi school, in which three pronouncements at one time count as three, and the separation is irrevocable.
Your daughter must now observe her ‘iddah, and both parties should seek guidance from a qualified local scholar to ensure all next steps are carried out correctly.
