Question:

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah

I heard somewhere that one of the sahabah did voluntary udhiya on behalf of the children.

Is this true and can we follow suit if this is indeed true, await your response.

Jazakallah

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah

It is mustahab (preferable) for a person to slaughter an animal on behalf of his children,[1]if not he should at least include them in his niyah (intention).

Please look at the following hadith:

"Abdullah ibn Hisham (RA) narrates that the Prophet (SAW) used to slaughter one sheep on behalf of his entire family."

Imam Ayni says, “This shows of the [permissibility] of gifting the thawab (reward) of the slaughter.”[2]

And Allah SWT alone knows best.
