Salam brother, I just wanted to ask a question on the subject of ghusl and urinating. I’m an 18 year old male, and waswasa is very huge in my life. I battle with it everyday. Past couple of weeks I have been getting the urge to check my urine, because my friend told me about him doing so. Sometimes when I check it, sticky stuff sometimes comes out and I straight away go have a ghusl. I’ve been having a ghusl like 3 times a day due to this problem, and my ghusls take a while. Is it necessary that I check my urine? Or is it ok if semen is released, because I am not releasing it with pleasure, I don’t require ghusl? Please if you can help me, it will make my life so much better.

Insha Allah your question will be looked at under three headings.
Problem of waswasa
Saaiduna Abu Hurairah Rradiallahu Anhu said: “Some of the companions of the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam came to him and said, ‘We find in our hearts things that none of us dares utter.’ He said, ‘Do you really find that?’ They said, ‘Yes.’ He said, ‘That is clear faith.’ (Sahih Muslim)
The Shaitan only whispers to people of faith; as for those who are non-believers or non practicing he comes to him however he wants and does not limit himself to waswaas, rather he toys with him however he wishes.
In the mean time increase your zikr and remembrance to Allah (SWA) and don’t let these thoughts overtake you. Whenever you feel the doubts and whispers overtaking your concentration in salah then spit dryly three times to your left before you start your salah.
Saaiduna Uthman Ibn Abil Aas Radiallahu Anh said: “The Shaitan was interfering with my prayer and recitation of Qur’an. The Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam said: ‘That is a devil called Khanzab, so seek refuge with Allah from him and spit dryly to your left three times.’ I did that, and Allah took him away from me.” (Sahih Muslim p.224 v.2)
One of the conditions for ghusl to be compulsory is that the semen is released with pleasure. As this is not the case in this situation, there is no need for you to do ghusl when you see semen on your clothes. The semen, which you have seen, is called madhi, which only necessitates wudhu and not ghusl. (Raddul Muhtar p.300 v.1)
If you are suffering constant discharge of madhi then there is a good chance that you may be mazoor.
A person who due to some illness, etc… continuously remains in the state of impurity, being unable to remain in the state of purity long enough to perform Salaah is called a Ma’zoor.
One will become a Ma’zoor only if the state of impurity lasts for one complete duration of a Salah time. If throughout this time, blood, urine or any other impurities flowed or dripped continuously, not enabling one to make wudhu and perform the Fardh Salah with purity, then one will be known as a Ma’zoor.
For example, if the illness occurred 15 minutes before isha salah (the last portion of the duration of the magrib salah), then the actual time of being a Ma’zoor will be reckoned from the start of isha salah.
During this time if the illness stopped long enough to enable one to make the faraaidh of wudhu (face, arms etc…) and just the Fardh Salah, then one will not be considered a Ma’zoor.
After qualifying as a Ma’zoor, one will remain a Ma’zoor as long as the bleeding, discharge etc… does not stop for one full Salah time.
Upon becoming a Ma’zoor, it is not necessary for the bleeding to be continuous in the succeeding Salah times. It will suffice if the bleeding was for just a moment for one of succeeding Salah times for the person to continue to be considered a Ma’zoor.
A Ma’zoor shall make Wudhu for every Fardh Salah. The wudhu of a Ma’zoor remains valid for the duration of the Salah time and all the factors which break wudhu besides the factor responsible for making one Ma’zoor, will nullify the wudhu of a Ma’zoor. (Ahsanul Fatawa p.77 v.2 & Fatawa Darul Uloom Deoband p.298 v.1)
If your situation is so bad that you do not have time in which you are able to do the faraaidh of wudhu and read the Fardh Salah without the discharge returning then you will be considered a Ma’zoor thus it will be permitted for you to read Salah with this illness. You should do Wudhu for each Salah.
Regarding the status of your clothing the following two rules will apply:
a) If the clothes soiled by the bleeding or urine become soiled quickly before the Salah could be completed, then it is permissible to read the Salah in that clothing.
b) If the clothing does not soil quickly and one will be able to perform and complete the Salah without the impurity reaching the size of a dirham, (area of the hollow in the palm of the hand) then it will be necessary to wash it. Salah with such impure clothing will not be permissible. (Kitabut Taharah p.71)
