Question:

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah

If a husband in anger says to his wife, "I’m only waiting for our son to turn 18 years old (the son is currently four years old) then it's finished between us, I can’t tolerate this anymore.” Does this count as a divorce?

And if yes when would it take effect?

The wife asked the husband if his purpose was to divorce and he said no.

Kindly guide me according to the Sharia and Hanafi Fiqh.

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah

No, this will not count as a divorce as he was only expressing his desire to end the relationship at the aforementioned time.

And Allah SWT alone knows best.
