Question

Assalamualaikum,

During wudu, if a person’s gums start bleeding, do they have to wait until the bleeding stops?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

If a person bleeds from their gums, they will have to see how much blood has flowed. If there is more blood than saliva then the ruling will be that a person’s wudhu will break (if they had wudhu) or if they were making wudhu they would need to wait until the blood stops.

If the saliva is more than the blood then wudhu will not break and therefore a person can make wudhu in that scenario.

A person will be able to tell that the blood is dominant if the person's spit comes out red, however, if the spit comes out yellow the saliva will be considered dominant and that’s the rule that should be followed.[1]
