- Does a person have to do aalim course to become an aalim?
- What're the virtues of becoming an aalim?
In the name of Allah; the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
In response to your questions;
- The term ‘Alim’ traditionally refers to graduates that have completed the Dars-E-Nizami syllabus from an Islamic institute called a Darul Uloom usually for male students and a Jamia; usually for female students. During the course of study, six major books of hadīth (Al-Kutub Al-Sitta) are taught. The person who has completed this course will be referred to as an Alim or Alimah.
- There are many virtues of becoming an Alim, as can be seen in the following Qur’anic verse;
‘Allah will raise those who have believed among you and those who were given knowledge, by degrees’. (Surah Mujādila: Verse 11)
Furthermore, in a Hadīth narrated by Ibn Abbas he said, that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: ‘The Faqīh (person who has an understanding of religious rulings) is more severe on the Satan than a thousand worshippers’. (Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith no. 2681, p1922, Al-Kutub Al-Sitta: Darussalam)
