Question

Some students out of fear pray in the bathroom in school, work, or university. Is this permissible?

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيْم

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Establishing Salaat in the area of the bathroom or toilet will be allowed but disliked as long as there is the ability to face Qibla and the floor upon which Salaat is to be offered is clean and dry. The floor will be considered as clean if there is no evidence to suggest the presence of impurity. Any doubt in the cleanliness of the floor will be dismissed as long as there is no certainty to consider it impure.[1] This allowance is given only when there is a justified reason due to fear of harm.[2]

Wherever no such critical danger or fear exists, the Salaat should then be offered in a more appropriate place due to the respect for the dignity of Salaat.
