What is the ruling of Ephedrine Dietary Supplements?

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

Answer

The Prophet of Allah (SAW) has said:

“Every intoxicant is haraam.” (Mishkaatul Masabeeh p.317 v.2)

The side effects of Ephedrine dietary supplements outweigh the benefits, thus it will be Makruh Tahrimi to use such supplements. Furthermore, there is no necessity in using them unlike medicine.

Finally, as one is required to have a pharmaceutical license in order to sell such products, it will not be permissible for you to continue selling this product. To obey the law of the country is necessary upon every Muslim. This according to the Shariah is considered as a trust and to break it is unlawful.

Allah (SWA) in the Holy Quran has said:

“And fulfil (every) engagement, for engagement will be enquired into (on the Day of Judgement).” (Surah Bani Israeel v.34)

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayra Radiallahu Anhu narrates that the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam has said: “The signs of a hypocrite are three: When he speaks he lies, when he makes a promise he breaks it, and when he is given a trust he breaches it.”  (Sahih Bukhari p.10 v.1)
