Question
Is it permissible to say Saaiduna in Durude Ibrahim?
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer
According to the Hadith of Sahih Bukhari, the word “Saaiduna” is not mentioned before the word “Muhammad” and “Ibrahim”.
However, if a person reads “Saaiduna” before without assuming it to be part of the Durude Ibrahim but out of love and respect of the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam and Saaiduna Ibrahim Alayhis Salam then there is nothing wrong with it and will be deemed permissible.
With regards to your question that some people may say that saying “Saaiduna” is shirk or an act of polytheists, hence it is impermissible to call or address anyone with this title besides Allah (SWA). This view is incorrect. The reason is that we find many ahadith where the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam used this title (Saaiduna) for himself.
Saaiduna Abu Hurairah Radiallahu Anhu reports that the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam said “I shall be pre-eminent (Saaidu) amongst the descendants of Adam on the Day of Judgement and I will be the first intercessor and the first whose intercession will be accepted (by Allah). (Sahih Muslim p.254 v.2)
The conclusion to the question is that it is more preferable not to read “Saaiduna” as it is not established through the hadith, however, if someone out of respect and love of the Prophet Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam reads it then it is permissible and it is incorrect to call it shirk.
