Question
Is Salah permissible wearing a mask?
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
It is makruh for men (disliked) to cover the face by wearing a mask or by any other method,i.e. covering the nose and mouth whilst in Salaat.[1] Abu Hurayra (r.a.) states that The Prophet (s.a.w.) prohibited “Sadl” in Salaat and prohibited a man from covering his mouth (in Salaat)[2]
If a person has a valid excuse, then it would be totally fine to wear a mask during Salaat, such an excuse which prevents harm[3] to oneself or others, or used as precautionary methods such as the Covid 19 guidelines. A valid excuse may include allergies, preventing the spread of disease, or advice from a medical expert.
