Question:
Can you wear your ihram to the haram but not to perform Umrah but just to go to the mataf.
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
For the one who begins ‘Umrah’ and is at the beginning stage of it i.e. wearing ihram and entering haram, it is required for him to complete it, and it is not allowed for him to abandon it.
Allah SWT says in the Qur’an:
وَأَتِمُّوا۟ ٱلْحَجَّ وَٱلْعُمْرَةَ لِلَّهِ
And for Allah, finish the hajj and [Surah Baqarah verse 196].
Unless there’s a reason and something happened to him to prevent him from finishing his Umrah, or he was prevented from doing so by an adversary or sickness, the muhrim (pilgrim in the ihram) does not have the right to abandon his Umrah and just stay at the mataf. So in conclusion, anyone who intends to enter ihram but does not complete the rites without a valid excuse has committed haram.
Only Allah knows best
