Question:
My father works in a firm that’s in the mining business. Now, what some of the members of the firm do is when they buy land from the local people, they do not write the correct price in the documents and write low prices. They do this to evade taxes. However, they do pay the lease of the mineral they mine, to the government. The income of the entire firm is combined and then distributed among the members. Would this income be halal?
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
Allah says in the Qur’an :O humanity! Eat from what is lawful and good on the earth and do not follow Satan’s footsteps. He is genuinely your sworn enemy. (Qur’an, 2:168)
If a person earns money in a Halal manner, their income would be Halal (Tafseer Kabeer, Vol 5, Pg 2). As mining is a Halal way to earn, the income from mining would also be Halal. The action of other firm members would not affect your father’s income.
