Question:
Is it permissible to write Quranic script on the skin of the arm and keep it there?
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
There are two possible scenarios that may occur based on your query:
▪︎Tattooing verses of the Quran on one’s skin.
▪︎Writing verses of the Quran on one’s skin with removal ink.
Firstly, it is impermissible to tattoo one’s skin.
Abdullah ibn Umar narrated: Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “Allah has cursed such a lady as lengthens (her or someone else’s) hair artificially or gets it lengthened, and also a lady who tattoos (herself or someone else) or gets herself tattooed. (Sahih al Bukhari, hadith # 5937)[1]
In addition, Abu Hurairah narrated: that Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “The evil eye is a fact,” and he forbade tattooing. (Sahih al Bukhari, hadith # 5944)[2]
Secondly, it is inappropriate to write verses of the Quran on one’s skin. This may result in the person entering the toilet with the verses of the Quran or touching the verses without wudu which is not allowed.
In conclusion, it is impermissible to tattoo the verses of the Quran on one’s skin and it is inappropriate to write the verses of the Quran on one’s skin as well.
Only Allah (عز و جل) knows best.
