Question:  

Assalamu alaykum Ustaji, had a question to ask. If I fly into Jeddah but head to madina from there, would I have passed the miqaat that requires me to go into state of ihram?

Answer:

If a person doing umrah has intention to go to Madinah first after coming to Jeddah then before he arrives at Jeddah airport, it is not necessary that he wears ihrām before arriving at Jeddah. Without wearing ihrām , he can arrive at Jeddah and then head towards Madinah. The people who say that while going from Jeddah to Madinah, they have to wear ihrām, their opinion is not correct. After going to Madinah, when they head towards Makkah then they wear ihrām from  Dhul al- Halifah. Jeddah is included in the hill meaning it is included in miqat. Ihrām is necessary when a person has intention to enter the haram.

الدرالمختار (کتاب الحج، مطلب فی المواقیت، ج:2، ص: 476، ط:سعید)

“(وحرم تأخير الإحرام عنها) كلها (لمن) أي لآفاقي (قصد دخول مكة) يعني الحرم (ولو لحاجة) غير الحج أما لو قصد موضعا من الحل كخليص وجدة حل له مجاوزته بلا إحرام فإذا حل به التحق بأهله فله دخول مكة بلا إحرام وهو الحيلة لمريد ذلك”.

الدرالمختار (کتاب الحج، مطلب فی المواقیت، ج:2، ص: 474، ط:سعید)

“(والمواقيت) أي المواضع التي لا يجاوزها مريد مكة إلا محرما خمسة (ذو الحليفة) بضم ففتح مكان على ستة أميال من المدينة وعشر مراحل من مكة تسميها العوام أبيار علي – رضي الله عنه – يزعمون أنه قاتل الجن في بعضها وهو كذب”.
