Question:

I’m currently in hospital with a brain bleed. I also have a urine pipe attached. When I get up I feel very weak and drowsy. A nurse will only wash you once a day but I break my wudu more than once. How do I prepare and do the prayer? Would tayammum be sufficient?

Thank you for your question, may Allah increase us, you and the Muslim ummah in seeking His pleasure. May Allah make things easy for you and give you a full and quick recovery.

Yes, tayammum would be allowed in your case, due to moving for water is harmful1. Also, if you cannot pass the length of time it takes to pray a prayer for the entirety of a prayer time (e.g. 4 rakats from the start of dhuhr to the start of ‘asr) without your wudu breaking, then you would be classed as an excused person and one wudu/tayummum would suffice for that prayer time. This is on the condition of the tayummum breaking according to that very same reason that makes you excused. But once the prayer time exits then the tayammum is broken.
