Question:

A lady has left medinah for makkah for umrah (she is in ihraam) and has 2 days left before she leaves back home. and her menstrual period has started what should she do regarding her umrah and coming out of ihraam.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

A woman should always plan her umrah trip in such a way that she could perform her umrah in the state of purity. This can be done by scheduling the days to be such where it doesn’t fall or her normal days of habit or by taking such medication which will stop the menstruation.

If the lady passed the miqat whilst in Ihram, she should try to perform the tawaf as soon as possible before she enters the state of menstruation.

Based on your query, if the lady passed the miqat and has not yet performed her tawaf and she started menstruation, then she should wait until the menstruation comes to an end. She will have to wait in the state of Ihram, while observing all the prohibitions of Ihram. Once the menstruation comes to an end she can now perform her umrah in the state of purity.

Nevertheless, if she is certain that she will not become pure any time during the journey, even during the end of the journey, then she should try her best to delay her departure date, so that she may perform her Umrah in the state of purity.

If the above mentioned is not possible for any reason, then it is allowed for her to perform the Umrah during menstruation. However, she must give dam (i.e. sacrifice a goat or a sheep in the haram) because of her performing the Tawaf in the state of menstruation.
