Question:
I am from The North East of India. The climate here is warm and humid due to which there is a lot of sweating during summer months, can I wear half pant and vest when I am alone in my room?
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
It is Narrated from Bahz bin Hakim: “My father narrated to me from my grandfather, who said:
‘I said: “O Messenger of Allah! Regarding our ‘Awrah, what of it must we cover and what of it may we leave?” He said: “Protect your ‘Awrah except from your wife or what your right hand possesses.”‘ He said: “What about a man with another man?” He said: “If you are able to not let anyone see it, then do so.” I said: “What about a man when he is alone?” He said: “Allah is most deserving of being shy from Him.”
It is clear from the above mentioned narration that even if a person is alone, it will be unethical to have the awrah uncovered. The jurist as well stated that without any valid reason one should not uncover his awrah.
«سنن الترمذي» (5/ 110):
– حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاذُ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ، وَيَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزُ بْنُ حَكِيمٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ عَوْرَاتُنَا مَا نَأْتِي مِنْهَا وَمَا نَذَرُ؟ قَالَ: «احْفَظْ عَوْرَتَكَ إِلَّا مِنْ زَوْجَتِكَ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ يَمِينُكَ»، قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِذَا كَانَ القَوْمُ بَعْضُهُمْ فِي بَعْضٍ؟ قَالَ: «إِنْ اسْتَطَعْتَ أَنْ لَا يَرَاهَا أَحَدٌ فَلَا تُرِيَنَّهَا»، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ إِذَا كَانَ أَحَدُنَا خَالِيًا؟ قَالَ: «فَاللَّهُ أَحَقُّ أَنْ يُسْتَحْيَا مِنْهُ مِنَ النَّاسِ»: «هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ»
«حاشية الطحطاوي على مراقي الفلاح شرح نور الإيضاح» (ص54):
«”ونهي عن كشف عورته قائما” أي لقضاء الحاجة حتى يدنو من الأرض تحرزا عن كشف العورة بغير ضرورة لقول أنس رضي الله تعالى عنه كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم إذا أراد الحاجة لم يرفع ثوبه حتى يدنو من الأرض رواه الترمذي بسند حسن قال الأبياري في شرح الجامع الصغير محله ما لم يخف التنجس والأرفع بقدر الحاجة اهـ وقال الطيبي يستوي فيه الصحراء والبنيان لأن كشف العورة لا يجوز إلا عند الحاجة يعني الضرورة ولا ضرورة قبل القرب من الأرض وعدم الجواز أحد قولين في الخلوة عندنا
