Question:
The Vinted app charges buyers with a buyer protection fee for every item we purchase. This is not an option; we cannot buy anything without the protection fee.
Even as a seller we do not have a choice, when we list a product the app just adds the buyer protection fee, but they do clarify what the price of the product is and the price of the protection fee is.
So it would mention the product price as, say, ‘£10’ and then it would say like ‘£11.40 including buyer protection fee’.
This buyer protection fee, according to the Vinted website/app is:
1. Buyer Protection
Ensuring you’re protected while you’re buying on Vinted is one of our top priorities. For this reason, we cover you with Buyer Protection when you pay through Vinted. This takes care of:
- Protection of your purchases
You can shop with peace of mind, knowing that we can refund you if your item:
1. Is significantly not as described
2. Doesn’t arrive
3. Arrives damaged
Just press “I have an issue” in your conversation screen with the seller within 2 days from being notified by Vinted that the item should have been delivered or that the order seems lost, and submit your claim. For more details, check out our Refund Policy.
Note:
Your order will be completed and the payment will be automatically released to the seller if you miss the 2-day deadline or if you ever hit the Everything is OK button.
2. Extra measures against fraud

3. Support from our team
We’re always at hand if you need to solve any questions related to your order. We’re here to ensure you have smooth and successful shopping on Vinted.
Buyer Protection fee on Vinted
Our goal is to provide buyers with a secure buying experience by applying a Buyer Protection fee. The amount of fee depends on the order’s price.
For orders (including bundles) priced less than £500, the formula is:
1. A fixed amount: a range of £0.3 to £0.8
2. A variable amount: a range of 3% to 8% of the purchase price agreed between you and the seller, regardless of postage costs
For orders (including bundles) priced £500 or more, the formula is:
3% of the item’s price (including the value-added tax (VAT) applied to the item’s price)
You will see the total Buyer Protection fee amount, calculated to the final price of your item at the checkout page.
Will it be permissible to buy and sell on the app?
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
This buyer protection fee seems to be similar to a warranty. In this case, it will be permissible to buy and sell on this app since the protection price is added to the price of the product and will be considered to be part of the purchase price of the item.
