Question:

I suffer from waswasa a lot. These waswasa have made me a patient of OCD. I keep cleaning the floor of bathroom for fear that if these drops are impure then by using a pair slippers, the whole house will become najis (impure).

Recently I was having my period and I took a shower. Before coming out of the shower, I thoroughly cleaned my private parts and then my legs with the hand held shower. Then I covered my private parts with a big pad so nothing impure drips on the floor of the bathroom. Then I washed my feet and got out of the bath tub.

After a few minutes (after finishing my shower), I started having a doubt that what if some impure water that dropped from your legs fell on the floor. Even though I covered my private parts. But what if my legs had used impure water when I washed my private parts.

And then my slippers got wet with water dripping from my body.

Though I’m not sure if anything impure fell on the floor but still my mind says just clean it. But I don’t want to fall for shaytaan’s waswasa and I didn’t clean the floor or wash the slippers because I wasn’t certain that anything impure fell. But at the same time I fear that my slippers made the whole house najis.

Please guide me what should I do.

And please tell me if I washed my private parts properly. And regarding the water that goes down through your legs, does it make them napak? In the same way If I’m washing certain parts of my body to purify them and the surrounding area gets wet, does it make it napak?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

The act of performing ghusl during a shower is sufficient to purify the area affected by najasah. Thereafter, if water trickles down your legs after having washed the private area, this is not considered to be from the impure. Your legs are pure (tahir) and unaffected by the trickling water since you had already attained purification through ghusl.

The water dripping from your body after ghusl is considered pure and as such will not have any effect to purity wherever it drops, whether that’s on your slippers, on the bathroom floor or in fact anywhere in your house. 1 Any doubts remaining thereafter should be dismissed since this aligns with the Islamic jurisprudence principle that ‘certainty is not lifted by doubt2.

Similarly, when any part of your body is affected by najasah, washing that part from one to three times with water will fulfil the requirement for purification and you will become pure (tahir). Thereafter anything touched by you or the water dripping or trickling from you are all considered pure. So, rest assured, that your state of purity is intact. 3
