Question
Is there any basis or wisdom of giving the azan by the Qabr. Please guide us in light of Shariah. In our locality, a lot of people give the azan after the burial. Is that correct?
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer
As muslims, whatever we do must be found in the shariah. That which is derived from the Quran or the sunnah. Whether it was practiced by the sahaba or not.
So when we look in the shariah and the practice of the salaf us salih (our pious predecessors), we didn’t find them giving the azan by the grave.
This is something which is invented and brought to the deen. In the hadith we are warned regarding innovation:
“If any one introduces into this affair of ours anything which does not belong to it, it is rejected.”
Therefore to give azan by the grave is incorrect and should be avoided as there is no indication to it from the books of hadith neither from the books of fiqh.
Only Allah knows best.
