Question
As Salam ‘alaikum! If one after offering Sunnah muakkadah has talked about something on the way to a Masjid or inside a Masjid while waiting for Fard his reward for this Sunnah is diminished according to some scholars of the Madhab. However, if nothing is reported from early Hanafi scholars whether this fatwa is the main opinion in the Madhab or is it considered as one of the opinions of Hanafi scholars?
Hanafi scholars referred to a hadith from Aisha regarding to immediate offering Sunnah after Fard but is there any evidence about the same thing if one has conversations or drinks/eats before Fard? I mean Sunnah prayers before Fajr, Dhuhr?
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
The time between the Adhan and Iqamah is a time when prayers are answered and doing ‘ibadah such as dua, praying Sunnah, Tahiyat al-Masjid, etc. is encouraged. If one talks during this time, they will miss out on this reward. However, there are also narrations through which we know that the Prophet (saw) would sometimes talk to Aisha (ra) after Adhan of fajr, before the Iqamah. Other times, the Prophet (saw) would lie down for a bit before the Iqamah was called.
Only Allah knows best.
