Question:

Is it true from Hanafi school.Impurity only transfers from an a dry impure object to a pure wet hand only if the traces of the impurity can be found on the pure hand. How strong is this opinion and are there any evidences for it.

Answer:

The Hanafi position is, that if the impurity into a liquid or something which is wet then that liquid or entity which is wet will not be classified as impure unless the colour, taste or smell is altered from its original state.

To support this view the Hanafi scholars cite the following authentic Hadith reported in Sahih Muslim and in other authentic collections of Hadith: “When anyone amongst you wakes up from sleep, he must not put his hand in the utensil till he has washed it three times, for he does not know where his hand was during the night.”

This proves that just by meeting something impure, doesn’t make a pure thing impure, unless it is changed severely, otherwise the water in the utensil which the Prophet (saw) has ordered to wash from would have become impure through the first contact and would have been rendered unusable.

Only Allah knows best.
