Question: I work for an online transcription company where clients upload their files, and we take whichever file we like and transcribe them (type their conversation in words). I am a man. Is it permissible for me to transcribe a file where two women are doing an interview about something halal, and I am transcribing just by listening—without video, only audio?

Answer: The factor of communication entails that one may become drawn or tempted towards inappropriate communication.
If there are no illicit interactions or any engagement that leads to inappropriate thoughts, and it is only for work purposes—wherein one has no direct interaction with the individuals speaking—then it is permissible. This is only valid as long as there is a need, meaning until the contracted work period.
Regarding this question: the subject matter being discussed will also determine the permissibility of the transcription. In this scenario, the discussion is work-related and nothing promiscuous or lewd, so it will be permissible, provided one exercises the highest caution.
Therefore, only engage in the necessary aspects of the task. Even listening can be harmful, so it is important to exercise utmost precaution.
And only Allah (عز و جل) knows best.
