Question:
Any write ups on sublingual medication and fasting? Does any of the medicine get dissolved into saliva and swallowed?
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
Sublingual medication generally dissolves under the tongue and is absorbed directly into the bloodstream, without passing through the digestive system but there are chances that it may go in to the stomach with saliva.
If the medication is swallowed or ingested in any way even if sublingual initially but eventually swallowed and reached the stomach, the fast is considered broken[i] and Qada will be done for it.[ii]
There are different articles written on this topic. I will suggest you read the article by Shaykh Rafaqat Rashid on “Islamic ruling on invalidation of fasting”.

Everything such as food, drink, and the likes of that enters the stomach through a natural way, will break the fast.

If a person’s mouth fills with blood and they swallow it deliberately, their fast is broken and they must make up for it.
Only Allah s.w.t knows best.
