Question:
Is it permissible to read Quran where there is music played? I was in a room reading Quran and music was played
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
The Qur’an is a sign of Allah ﷺ, and it is a book that is to be shown the utmost veneration and respect, and by extension so too is the recitation of it to be shown respect—whether done silently or loudly.
Hence, it will not be permissible (لا يجوز) to read the Qur’an where music is being played—as this is an action that diminishes the grandeur of the Qur’an. Furthermore, in the scenario where the Qur’an is being recited, those in proximity should maintain silence and listen to that which is being recited.
Going forward, if you happen to be reciting the Qur’an in a room and it so happens that others come into the same room and begin to play music, you should cease the recitation of the Qur’an and leave that room.
If it is a room where music is being played and you cannot leave it, such as a doctor’s office etc., then you should refrain from beginning any reading of the Qur’an whilst in such rooms.
Only Allah knows best.
