Question:
- When will a jamaat of Muslims wages jihad on India and will be successful, is it after the Muslim army of Imam Mehdi conquers Palestine?
- Hadhrath Abu Umamah [Radhiullah Tha’laa Anhu] says that Rasoolullah ﷺ said “there will be 4 peace agreements between you and the Romans. The forth will be mediated through a person who will be from the progeny of Haroon [Allahisallam] and will be upheld for seven years” the people asked “O Rasoolullah ﷺ who will be the imam of the people of that time?”
Rasoolullah ﷺ said ” He will be from my progeny and will be forty years of age. His face will shine like a star and he will have a black spot on his left cheek. He will don two “Qatwaani” cloaks and will appear exactly as the person of Bani Israel … [ Tabrani ]
Are these 2 people the same person or different people?
- How long will Imam Mehdi live for and Hadhrath Eesa [Allahisallam] will live for ?
- A man from Abu Sufyan’s army will do massacres of descendants of Prophet ﷺ, is there any more details of this person, he will rule over Syria and Egypt?

Answer:
There are two sets of narrations relating to a battle with India, which are only found in Sunan an-Nasa’i and Imam Ahmad’s Musnad. The narrations mentioning Abu Hurayrah (ra) are graded as Da’if (weak) by both Al-Albaani and the commentators of Imam Ahmad’s Musnad due to untrustworthy and unreliable transmitters. The other hadeeth narrated by Thowban mentioning two groups of Muslims who will be free from the Fire is graded as Hasan. Whilst this hadeeth does not explicitly mention when the event will occur, it is very likely that this event has already taken place as historically India has experienced Muslim conquest around the 12th century, before the colonisation by Britain and Europe in the 17th century.[1]
As for your second statement regarding four treaties made with the Romans, this is also classified as Da’if, with the narration containing the name “Heraculus”, not Haroon (as). This hadeeth has been graded as Daif due to the untrustworthy transmitter in its chain (sanad). One should keep in mind that the hadeeth collections of Tabarani contain authentic (Sahih), weak and fabricated hadeeth, including Al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr where this hadeeth is found.[2]
There is a hadeeth graded as Hasan mentioning that the Mahdi will rule for seven years. As for Isa (as), it is stated in a Sahih hadeeth in Abi Dawood that Isa (as) will live on earth for forty years.[3]
Lastly, the mention of As-Sufiyani is in al-Hakim’s Mustadrak, which has also been proven to contain authentic, weak and fabricated hadeeth due to the author passing away before revising his compilation. In general, references to As-Sufiyani are sparse and weak, and this narration in particular has been graded as Da’if for two reasons. The first is only having a single chain of narration, meaning no one else corroborated this questionable hadeeth. The other, more pertinent reason, is its untrustworthy transmitter who was known for omitting those who would fabricate hadeeth from his chains of narration, and there is no evidence of the person he claims to have narrated from ever having narrated this hadeeth.[4]
As a final note, details regarding these points in time have no bearing on an individual’s Islam and therefore have no significance or benefit to the daily lives of Muslims. These narrations are often found on anti-Islamic websites which mention weak (Da’if) and fabricated (Mawdhu’) hadeeth despite them being inconsequential and inauthentic. A person should keep in mind that it is a grave sin to spread false narrations of the Prophet (saw), and books that contain such narrations should be avoided. Anyone wishing to quote hadeeth from books containing hadeeth of varying authenticity should properly research their validity. If the hadeeth is found to be weak or fabricated, they should avoid such narrations of ambiguous origin and certainly not propagate them to others.
