Question:
During ruku I noticed my feet were out of line so I moved them. I may have moved upwards a bit when moving my feet, however my hands were still attached to my legs. Is the salah still valid?
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Answer:
In salah, small acts or movements do not invalidate salah unless done repeatedly consecutively. As it has not been made clear on your question as to what you believe moved out of position, I can only assume you are referring to either your back or feet. For a man, whilst it is best for his back to be level, his salah will still be valid so long as his hands are still on his knees and he is closer to bowing down in ruku’ than to the position of standing.[1]
In regards to your feet, so long as a part of one foot is still connected to the floor, your salah will be valid. It should be kept in mind that to raise one foot completely off the ground would be makhruh without a valid excuse, and to lift both feet off the ground would be impermissible and thus break the salah. As for moving from your original place during salah, this is connected to the ruling of not moving excessively. For a person reading alone, so long as one does not move away from their place of prostration (sajdah), their salah will not break.[2]
