Question:

What should a Muslim do when the problems in life become a lot and the person has one big problem in his life, and then another big problem comes on top of the huge problem that he already has, and the person is filled with pain and suffering inside his body, and he does not see any way out of his problems.

Wherever he looks he sees problems and he sees closed doors. The person does not see any openings from which he can get out of his problems from. What should this person do in this case. What is the solution in Islam for a person who is in this situation?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

When a Muslim faces overwhelming trials one great hardship after another, this can be because of many things. It can be the test of Allah to elevate his status in front of Allah or remove his sins from him or to bring him closer to Allah.

We can see hardships in the lives of prophets too. Allah says in Quran[i]:

“They were afflicted with suffering and adversity and were shaken until even the Messenger and those who believed with him said, ‘When will the help of Allah come?’ Surely, the help of Allah is near.”

Surah al-Baqarah 2:214

A Muslim who believes in Allah puts his trust upon Allah and should be patient upon it to get his reward in the hereafter. Allah says in the Quran[ii]

“And whoever puts his trust in Allah — then He is sufficient for him.”

Surah At-Talaq 65:3

It is recommended to do dhikr of the following ayat in times of hardships.

حَسْبِيَ اللهُ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا هُوَ، عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَهُوَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ

Allah is sufficient for me. There is no god but He. I rely on Him, and He is the Lord of the Mighty Throne.”

Surah At-Tawbah 9:129

One should constantly remind himself that with hardships there will be  ease and whatever he is going in this world it is the test of the hereafter and if he is patient on it, he will be rewarded abundantly in this life and the hereafter.
